What critics pointed out about this monstrous clip from the slums of Haiti's capital was the fascination with armed hooligans occupying the city's impoverished district of Cité Soleil. Prior to the fall of President Aristide's regime, the government hired these killers, called Chiméres, to attack the supporters of the opposition. The film is a rough depiction of the life of two brothers, members of the gang, who lead a romantic fight over a French girlfriend in the world's most dangerous place. Perhaps those who say Mr Leth is ignorant about politics are right, but his famous film says so much about the documentary film of today that it cannot be ignored.
