Synopsis

In 1958, Vieyra sets up a special office dedicated to film in Senegal, which, after the independence (1960), becomes the base of the Senegal cinematography, at first naturally oriented at the cultural heritage as the prerequisite of any nation's life. That is also the framework of the film Nation Was Born, a historical portrait of his homeland showing scenes from pre-colonial traditions, represented mainly by dance, to the exploitative European domination to the new beginning represented by the celebration of the republic.
