African American activists recount their experience of living in the United States. The writer Angela Davis and poet June Jordan remember the civil rights movement, their participation in the Black Panther movement in the 1970's and working with women in prisons. Jordan reads her poetry and together with Alice Walker, the author of the Color Purple, discuss the racist, gay movement and drug issues (music: Prince, Janet Jackson, Sister Rosa, Staple Singers).
