FilmICE was filmed in 1910–1913 by Herbert Ponting, the photographer and cameraman for Robert Scott’s Antarctic expedition: Scientific work at camp, preparations for the journey to the pole, majestic mountains of ice, and the life of animals, orcas, and penguins. The film, first shown in 1924 in a toned version, was carefully restored by the British Film Institute for the expedition’s 100th anniversary.
