Synopsis

Among other things, Czechoslovak cinema took a documentary look at Lenin’s 1912 visit to Prague. Under post-1968 Normalization, Czechoslovak TV adapted two Soviet plays by Nikolai Pogodin (from 1937 and 1940) – specifically, their later versions from which Stalin had been removed. One was directed by leading theatre director Evžen Sokolovský, although under the hard-line conditions of Normalization he did not give it the same level of artistry as he had in his works from the 1950s and ’60s. Lenin was played by long-time member of the National Theatre’s drama department Václav Švorc.
