Suggestive observations of the faces and actions of torturers, the suffering of the tortured, and crowds of onlookers. Proximity and slow motion make every gesture and movement in realistic recreations of torture methods more impactful, where a photographs showing manifestations of tyranny is transformed into the living image.

Taiwanese artist Chen Chieh-jen (1960) organized underground events during communist propaganda. He continued to create socially engaged art even after the change in regime. He created a series of films in which he explored the retelling of historical events.
