Synopsis

These early amateur films hasve become an impressive testimony about the original inhabitants of Taiwan, its nature, modernity, and urban life in the 1930s. The filmmaker implements his own technological innovations in making botanical time-lapse shots in which he observes plant growth.

Biography

Taiwanese filmmaker Deng Nan-Guang (1907-1971) studied in Japan in the 1920s, where he joined a photography club. Starting in the 1930s, he captured happenings on the streets, everyday situations of the Taiwanese. He later ran a camera shop in Taipei. He dedicated himself to photography until he died.
