Rufino’s cinematic essay shows the life of farmers and the promises of agrarian reform, set against the fears aroused by the military putsch in 1964. A visual collage consisting of intertitles, photographs, one constantly repeated scene, and archival footage. Sound plays an important part in the film as well.

Paulo Rufino (1946) is a lesser known representative of Invention Cinema, perhaps because after the later 1960s he only shot documentaries. His visual and mental associations are a poetic experimentation with the cinematic form.
