Synopsis

Based on a screenplay by Yuri Arabov, Taurus is part of Sokurov’s “tetralogy of power” (along with Moloch, The Sun, and Faust). It follows the terminally ill and helpless Lenin (Leonid Mozgovoy) over the course of a day in Gorky, confined to a wheelchair, suffering from lapses in memory and personal doubts, and surrounded by people looking to manipulate him.

Biography

Alexander Sokurov (born 1951 in Siberia) is one of Russia’s most distinctive and internationally renowned contemporary filmmakers. In the 1980s, Sokurov first gained attention through his original talent and combination of introspection and spectacular effects in a series of semi-documentary film essays.
