Synopsis

An Oscar-winning look at the Nazi Klaus Barbie, who after 1945 was in the service of Western intelligence agencies. Ophuls proved to be an excellent interviewer. The film’s many different voices range from dictators to Nazi hunters, and combine to form a call for justice and an ironic look at the human comedy.

“I think there are a lot of laughs in this film. It was one way, my way, at this stage of my life to deal with that period.” M. Ophuls
