This classic work of avant-garde cinema is a mediation on the present moment of watching a movie and the visual fixing in place of past events. We watch a series of photographs – personal and artistic manifestations of Frampton’s early exploration of visual techniques – placed on a gas burner, with the artist’s voiceover describing each photograph.

Experimental filmmaker, photographer and theoretician Hollis Frampton (1936–1984) was one of the leading figures of the 1960s American avant-garde movement. He was a pioneer of structural film and later digital art.
