Panorama from the Tower of the Brooklyn Bridge

Panorama from the Tower of the Brooklyn Bridge

Panoráma z věže Brooklynského mostu

Photography: Gottfried Wilhelm Bitzer
Color: Black and white
Language: No dialogue

A view from the tower on the Brooklyn side of the bridge is one of the first attempts at seeing the city from above. The in many ways pioneering camerawork shows a quick pan across Manhattan from the southwest to the north, including a shot of the bridge’s other tower.

An early film pioneer and innovator of cinematographic techniques, Gottfried Wilhelm “Billy” Bitzer (1872–1944) was D. W. Griffith’s master cinematographer and together they made several films, including the legendary Birth of a Nation (1915) and Intolerance (1916).
