The motif behind the cinematography of an iconic moving train, interlaced with portraits of a street in a city quarter close to an oil refinery in California, consists of a rhythmic collage, in which the filmmaker propagates images of rushing freight cars and the world passing by outside, and layers the coloured details into fleeting arrangements composed of inner-city symbols and movable figures.

In his works, American experimental filmmaker Bruce Baillie (1931), a key figure of the San Franciscan avant-garde, confronts the natural world with the manmade. In the 1960s, he co-founded Canyon Cinema, an independent platform for experimental film production and distribution.
