Miroslav Janek

Miroslav Janek is a director, cinematographer, editor, and teacher. He currently teaches at FAMU, but when he originally applied to study there during the Communist regime, he was rejected due to political reasons. He emigrated to the USA, where he made a number of original films and, as cinematographer and editor, collaborated with Godfrey Reggio on the so-called Qatsi Trilogy. Since his return to the Czech Republic in the 1990s, he has made several documentary films, including Thee Unseen, Battle for Life, Crimson Sails, Vierka, Or the Mystery of Family B’s Disappearance, Burning, Olga, and Citizen Havel, the last of which he finished with his wife, the film editor Tonička Janková, after the death of Pavel Koutecký.
