Abbas Fahdel

Iraqi-born director, screenwriter and film critic Fahdel has lived in France since he was 18, and is a graduate of the Sorbonne. Ever since his debut Retour à Babylone (Return to Babylon, 2002), his documentary and fiction films have explored issues related to his homeland, where he returns regularly as a filmmaker in order to capture the atmosphere in Iraq during the dictatorship and during the occupation. His latest fi lm Homeland (Iraq Year Zero) had its world premiere at this year’s Visions du Réel, where it earned the main prize in the International Feature Film Competition. The film also received the 2015 Doc Alliance Selection Award.
