Zuzana Homolová + Vladimír Merta

Zuzana Homolová:
No other musician here (i.e. Czech Republic and Slovakia) has been able to translate old folk ballads into the modern diction of urban folk quite so naturally and with such elegance. “Bloody Zuza” (a nickname related to the choice of gory subject matter in her repertoire) has recorded with – among others –Slnovrat, Vladimír Merta, Jiří Stivín, Vlasta Redl and Longital. While regularly performing with her trio, at IDFF Jihlava she will perform solo.

Vladimír Merta:
Legendary Czech singer-songwriter, a legend with little time for his own glorious past. A man of many talents – filmmaker, essayist and polemicist, performer of both Jewish songs and the lute repertoire, alternative teacher – but in the end, first and foremost the composer of hundreds of songs. “Do the impossible and make the lefties use the occasion of my seventieth birthday and go easy on fucking with their darling Jihlava!” (from correspondence). Almost always provocative, never boring.
