An Evening of Two Friends


Karel Hvížďala and Karol Sidon share not only a common past, but also the present. Leading Czech journalist and author Hvížďala spent several years as the editor-in-chief of the weekly news magazine Týden. In Jihlava, he will be reading from his short story Soňa. Karol Sidon – Hebrew name Efrajim ben Alexander – is the Chief Rabbi of Prague and a playwright, author, Charter 77 signatory and dissident of partially Jewish heritage. He will read a story from his book Brány mrazu a jiná próza (Gates of Frost and Other Prose), a collection of autobiographical stories, including the title novella Gates of Frost.
